Cities around the world compete and collaborate to find species, make observations, and connect people with nature in urban areas. It started in 2016 as a friendly contest between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Since then, it has grown into an international event, with over 700+ cities participating in 2025. People are finding animals, plants, and more in their neighbourhoods, and sharing their observations to iNaturalist. Join this challenge from wherever you are, no matter how much (or little) you might know about your local nature.
Both Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai Councils have organised local events to help residents participate:
- Hornsby Saturday 26 April, 10 am to 12 pm, Mt Kuring-gai Oval
- Ku-ring-gai Sunday 27 April, 9:30 am to 12 pm, Reading Avenue Reserve, East Killara
