Walk: South Lawson

FernCliffAdelineFalls

FULLY BOOKED

The South Lawson waterfall circuit gives you access to some classic Blue Mountains scenery, geology and vegetation without any serious and challenging climbs and precipitous cliffs. The three or four waterfalls sit in secluded, rocky glens of ferns (see the fern cliff at Adeline Falls right) and rainforest bordered by beautiful Blue Mountains Ash forest in narrow valley settings.

Date: Wednesday 21 April
Time: 9:45 for a 10 am start
Length: 4 km (2 to 3 hours)
Grade: moderate (lots of short climbs and descents but nothing very difficult)
Meet: cnr Honour Ave and Livingstone St, Lawson (see below for how to get there)
Bring: water, walking shoes, hat, lunch, snack, camera, plant i.d. books
Leader: John Martyn (0425 830 260)
Limit: 12 walkers

Due to COVID we will NOT provide refreshments at the end of the walk. However we'd encourage you to bring your own lunch so we can have a picnic together at the end of the walk.

How to get there

Follow the Great Western Highway past Hazlebrook into Lawson, but before reaching the railway station turn left by the Baptist Church onto Orient Street, following it for about 300 m to turn left onto Honour Avenue. The walk begins from a small car park on the right opposite the junction with Livingstone Street after just over 0.5 km. Highlights

Enjoy being in the classic beauty of the Blue Mountains, with abundant waterfalls, ferns, rainforest and ash forests but with no steep rocky climbs and intimidating cliffs.

Weather issues

Just the usual ones for the Blue Mountains, e.g. possible fog and drizzle (but the day will hopefully be preceded by a wet period so waterfalls are at their best).
