Walk: Duckholes Trail

Bob Conroy will lead us on a fire ecology, fire management and Aboriginal site management themed walk down the Terrey Hills and Duckhole Trails. We will visit two Aboriginal sites, see some interesting vegetation types and finish with a BBQ or light lunch at the Coal and Candle Rural Fire Brigade Station.

Note: In the case of wet or extreme weather, Bob will make a presentation followed by a Q&A session.

Length: 6 km (3 h)
Grade: mostly easy, wide firetrail, stoney in places, couple of short climb sections, muddy sections after rain
Meet: 301A McCarrs Creek Road (next to Coal and Candle Creek Rural Fire Service)
Weather issues: mostly open woodland and heathland so sun exposure is a factor
Bring: snack and drink, strong shoes, camera/smartphone
Refreshments: lunch provided after the walk

Bob's bio

Bob has more than 40 years of experience in protected area management with NPWS and the Jenolan Caves Reserve Trust. He is a member of the NSW Bush Fire Coordinating Committee, the Rural Fire Service Advisory Council, the Emergency Leaders for Climate Action and a recent member of the NPWS Greater Sydney Advisory Committee. Bob is a member of the Ku-ring-gai Georegion Steering Committee, a volunteer with the RFS, a member of WCPA, an expert assessor under the IUCN Green List program, a bushwalking guide with Hornsby Council, a member of the NPA and NSW Linnean Society and a Churchill Fellow. As a Director of ARRDENT Pty Ltd, Bob has also undertaken recent environmental and planning reviews for Australian protected area agencies and rural fire authorities.
