Local residents are very concerned about the deaths that are regularly occurring near the bushy sections of Comenarra Parkway.
This issue has been ignored by Ku-ring-gai Council claiming it is not responsible. As this road is classified as a regional road it may be the responsibility of Transport for NSW.
This issue needs to be investigated. Would a wildlife warning sign help to slow down traffic? Unfortunately Transport for NSW does not consider this to be an appropriate measure. In an email they stated that:
Wildlife signs are used on high-speed rural roads to warn motorists of hazards from large animals (including kangaroos). It is considered to be inappropriate for environmental and safety reasons to use ‘Wildlife’ signs to warn motorists on lower speed urban roads. These signs would be difficult to see at night and their proliferation in Ku-ring-gai would reduce the impact of regulatory and warning signs. Their effectiveness has not been demonstrated.
The speed limit is 60 km/h but on those steep hills speeds are often over 80 km/h. Would a speed camera help?
