Talk: The Path to a Sustainable Civilisation

Unconstrained human activities are pressuring the planet, social justice and peace. Technological change will play an important role in combating the forces driving climate disasters, but the power of vested interests and an economic system based on exploitation of the planet and people constrain progress.

Mark Diesendorf, joint author of The Path to a Sustainable Civilisation: Technological, Socioeconomic and Political Change will discuss his strategy to overcome these barriers so that we can reset to an ecologically sustainable, socially just, more peaceful world.

Mark was originally a physicist who expanded into interdisciplinary research on energy and sustainability. He was also a UTS Professor of Environmental Science and Founding Director of the Institute for Sustainable Futures. Dr Diesendorf is currently an Honorary Associate Professor in Environment & Society at UNSW.
